Relation with the theory

   1. Communication: As it is a art school, it required more communication between client and artist also artistic communcation. So I use more open area for people to rest and talk. And use glazing facade for gallery and workshop so that people can saw how they create the work and spread the school philosophy.

2. Fragmented: In order to avoid change the plan of  UNSW. The school is designed as two part which connected by the transition area in the middle. It helps to save the space also differ the use of space. As a result, one use more glazing as the workshop and lecture hall need more sun light and another use less glazing avoid sun light disturb the people when they are using computer or reading.

   

3. Sustainable: The building use big glazing facade to save the energy for public area. And use the wing wall to improve the single side ventilation ( cause the building have 3 floors). Also the shadin system and the plant on the roof to save the heating energy and improve the solar transform.

First Week Designers'concept I found:

Luis Barragan

1.      Color: Comparing with the normal architect who do minimalistic architecture without colors, he uses bright color painting.

2.      Space: He had a particular ability to envision the outdoor spaces and their relation to their interior paradigms and the natural context characteristics. 

3.      Solar Dynamic: He focuses on the solar dynamic which using windows to reflect the sun movement.

4.      Wall thickness: He used the different thickness of the walls to divide the spaces and areas according to the use of the space.

5.      Scale: Same form with different scales can be seen in most of Luis Barragan’s architecture.

Toyo Ito

1.      Use of Wood: the building unfolds as interior spaces with slightly different atmospheres relating to the various intended uses.

2.      Space: Spaces using on public request and private need in small structure buildings.

3.      Architecture Concept: ‘Home-for-All’ what is architecture built for.

4.      Minimalistic architectural concept: developing lightness in architecture that resembles air and wind.

5.      Architecture with Nature: Nature is fluid and architecture is fixed, so he is thinking about the relationship between architecture and natural feature.

Sustainable Feature

EXP2 concept

With Toyo Ito concept of public and private space and Barragan concept of saving space, I put public transports(Bus outside & Light Rail inside) above the ground and put private cars road under ground

Also with Barragan's bio climate concept of 'NATURAL VENTILATION AND NOISE CONTROL ', I use honeycomb concept benefit for air exchange and double window to reduce noise. And the material of the light blue one(on the right) is for sunshade.

 With Barragan concept of using color and curve, I choose yellow blue red and white as the walls color and make all under ground structure in curved. Toyo Ito has a concept of making the fixed building with nature fluid feature. So I make the two tower buildings in the middle with a dynamic style. And the reason why I put two building there is the station next to the car park area so people have the place to waiting for both people and transportation.

For the circulation, there is an elevator from under ground to above ground. It lets private car can drop off people inside the station area. Also the stair in the middle allow people to enter the building( which is the cafe and entertainment area)  and the other two allow people change both sides.
